Booker T. Washington National Monument. The Monument is a memorial to a former slave who rose to national and international fame as an educator, speaker, and controversial black leader. To recreate the sights, sounds and smells of Booker's boyhood, a mid-1800's tobacco plantation has been reconstructed.
